Marcus Eagan commented on SOLR-16465:
-------------------------------------
I started the effort here. Made more progress than I expected. I got lucky
because there's a bit in the start script that lets you enable or disable the
Admin UI. I remember that. Perfect place to export some environment variables
to React. :P
Despite me being very confused about a few of the details here, I feel very
good about how this will work. One question I have is do I need to support all
the login options out the gate? Or could I start with basic auth? I feel that
we must support them all, but there's a lot of code for me to read through in
the legacy login controller and try to understand. I can do it, I just need to
ask what do we think the target should be to get this truly off the ground.
Some important incremental improvements are already in sight.

> I suggest using
> [ngUpgrade|https://angular.io/guide/upgrade#upgrading-with-ngupgrade] to
> start a linear migration process to Angular from Angular JS. ngUpgrade will
> reach the end of life at the end of 2023, so we will only get a year of using
> it seamlessly, but this seems to me like the last resort regarding a linear
> migration of the Admin UI codebase. The need for this is of course to migrate
> the current Admin UI project to newer technology, instead of writing it all
> from the start (or implementing the same stuff once more in YASA).
