Concrete downstream case: a Spring Boot 4 service on solr-solrj 10.0.0 ships
both
tools.jackson.core:jackson-databind:3.1.5 and
com.fasterxml.jackson.core:jackson-databind:2.21.5
(~2.4MB duplicated runtime), and can't drop the latter — a bytecode scan of
solr-solrj-10.0.0 finds
only 5 of 778 classes referencing com/fasterxml/jackson (Utils,
JacksonContentWriter,
JacksonDataBindResponseParser, CoreAdminResponse), but Utils sits on
error-response paths, so even a
javabin-only client risks NoClassDefFoundError exactly when Solr returns an
error.
