Closing as a duplicate of #650, which asks for the same `observedGeneration` status field but with a concrete spec and a design discussion that concluded in favour of the `metadata.generation`-driven approach. The separate ask in this issue for an aggregated Pending/Running/Failed phase is covered by the existing `readyReplicas` / `upToDateNodes` status fields and the cluster-operation locking added in v0.8.0.
