I looked into this a bit as well as looked at you PR (I left PR related
comments there) and am wondering what the issue exactly is, I don't use yarn
much myself but in my tests I sometimes see the log files surfaced through the
Hadoop UI, and sometimes I see the same error as you. As for the stand-alone
history server, the logs are available in the same location in the UI as in the
Web UI during a running application. It seems the solution here is to find out
why the logs are not surfaced in this use case and to address that (may
actually be a bug).
