Christian Zorneck commented on SPARK-18134:
-------------------------------------------

Because there is no valid workaround, which fits every case (like in my case),
this feature should be supported again.
I think it is important enough, to have this feature. It looks like, this
feature was removed because of political reasons, to show, that spark is fast,
in every situation, which is valid/supported.
But one big feature of spark is, that it is (or want to be) compatible to hive.
By not having the feature of GROUP BY a MapType, spark more and more distance
from hive support.

So, is there the possibility, that this feature will come again?

> Since version 1.5 and issue SPARK-9415, MapTypes can no longer be used in
> GROUP BY and join clauses. This makes it incompatible to HiveQL. So, a Hive
> feature was removed from Spark. This makes Spark incompatible to various
> HiveQL statements.
