It would be good to see if this only occurs during the sort based shuffle.
Also, it would be good to know whether it can be worked around by using LZF
instead of Snappy.
[~arahuja] are you using the sort based shuffle or the hash shuffle? Does this
go away if you use LZF compression?
IIRC - we've had issues in the past where latent bugs were revealed by the
Snappy compression library because it will buffer more on the reads and writes
than the other codecs. This could be a case where aren't flushing the stream
properly or we are making assumptions that the reading stream won't prefetch
data.
