[~zsxwing] if that's true, doesn't it imply that multiple threads are accessing
it? They can't be writing, I think, or else the results of
Long/DoubleAccumulator would be wrong, regularly. I wonder if the contention
was related to synchronizing reads? which isn't as essential here.
I also feel like I'm missing something but am not yet sure why synchronization
isn't necessary here.
