Sandy Ryza commented on SPARK-4452: ----------------------------------- [~matei] my point is not that forced spilling allows us to avoid setting limits, but that it allows those limits to be soft: if an entity (thread or object) is not requesting the 1/N memory reserved for it, that memory can be given to other entities that need it. Then, if the entity later requests the memory reserved to it, the other entities above their fair allocation can be forced to spill.
