Good point -- that makes sense.

I'm still in favor of not adding a config parameter: I think we're in agreement 
that it's hard to imagine a case where someone wants this to be *more* than 4, 
so making it 4 seems strictly better than the current approach where it is 
infinite.  If people complain or want to configure it to be less, we can always 
change this in a minor release.
