Hyukjin Kwon created SPARK-61030:
------------------------------------
Summary: Raise the error of the bool of a Column, take any value
in like, rlike, ilike and getField, and raise the errors of the arguments of
Column methods in the Python client as PySpark does
Key: SPARK-61030
URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SPARK-61030
Project: Spark
Issue Type: Bug
Components: Connect
Affects Versions: connect-rust-4.3.0
Reporter: Hyukjin Kwon
In PySpark, the bool of a Column, as in {{if col:}} or {{col and other}},
raises {{CANNOT_CONVERT_COLUMN_INTO_BOOL}} of the column. {{Column.like}},
{{rlike}} and {{ilike}} take any value, as {{like(a, 1)}}, and {{getField}}
takes any name, as {{col[name]}} does. {{cast}}, {{withField}}, {{dropFields}}
and {{over}} raise {{NOT_EXPECTED_TYPE}} for arguments of other types, and
{{dropFields}} raises {{CANNOT_BE_EMPTY}} without field names.
The Rust-backed Python client's bool of a Column raises {{AssertionError:
Undefined error message parameter for error class:
CANNOT_CONVERT_COLUMN_INTO_BOOL}}, as it does not give the column. {{like}},
{{rlike}}, {{ilike}} and {{getField}} raise TypeErrors for values that are not
strings, {{withField("x", 1)}} is accepted, and {{cast}}, {{withField}},
{{dropFields}} and {{over}} raise TypeErrors rather than PySpark's errors. Do
as PySpark does.
