I think writing to the local directory is the least surprising option for
'casual' local use. On a cluster, this is one of several things that needs to
be configured. I think quietly picking one of several locations is probably
more problematic than showing people this needs to be set from the get-go. That
said {{/var/log/spark}} makes some sense; I don't know about {{.cache/logs}}. I
am not sure I'd make this change but will leave it for a while in case others
disagree.
