Niall nailed it. My idea was:

I believe this would satisfy Martin's objection, which Niall correctly pointed
out, and mine as well. Also at least some of the big browsers are moving toward
implementing the WHAT-WG (Web Hypertext Application Technology Working Group)
standard, and so this allows people to move forward with progress without
waiting for official support. Their work enhances HTML4 with many more
attributes:
