There are several calls to getenv() in module common/IpcGuardian.cpp. Some of
these are guarded by static variables so they are called only once in the life
of the process. But others are called repeatedly. We could make things a bit
more efficient if these calls were done just once. There may be a few debug
calls that could simply be done away with completely.
