We at The Field Museum would like to extend to you an exciting educational
opportunity to get the latest news from the field.

From June 17, 2001 to July 3, 2001, Field Museum zoology curator Janet
Voight will send you updates as she and a team of scientists study deep-sea
hydrothermal vents on the floor of the North Pacific Ocean. Dr. Voight
will participate in a submersible-assisted research cruise and use JASON, a
remotely operated vehicle that will: investigate how much heat escapes from
under the Earth's crust; collect geophysical and oceanographic data; make
observations and collections of biological communities at these
hydrothermal vents; and deploy and recover current meters with attached
temperature probes from the ocean floor at depths of 2400 m (7800 feet).

Through Dr. Voight's updates, you will learn about the team's underwater
research, up-to-the-minute methods, and new discoveries, plus get a taste
of the day-to-day challenges of underwater exploration and research
conducted aboard a ship and the experiences of a team of scientists.

If you would like to receive Dr. Voight's updates, please send an e-mail
to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the Subject Heading "Subscribe."

Thank you.
