hello isync developers, first of all: thank you for developing a performant and reliable imap/maildir synchronization!
in a year of using it, for the first time now i need help to recover from a state nobody has enountered so far according to major search engines: "unterminated sync state header". after a power outage right when i was syncing mails, several consecutive folders show the error message: $ mbsync poseidonmailbox:mailinglists/intern Reading configuration file /home/chrysn/.mbsyncrc Channel poseidonmailbox Opening master poseidonmailbox... Starting tunnel 'ssh poseidon-mailbox /usr/lib/dovecot/imap'... ok Opening slave local... Selecting master mailinglists/intern... Selecting slave mailinglists/intern... Error: unterminated sync state header in /home/chrysn/.mbsync/:poseidonmailbox:mailinglists!intern_:local:mailinglists.intern imap(chrysn): Info: Disconnected: Logged out in=53 out=776 $ mbsync --debug poseidonmailbox:mailinglists/intern reading sync state /home/chrysn/.mbsync/:poseidonmailbox:mailinglists!intern_:local:mailinglists.intern ... Error: unterminated sync state header in /home/chrysn/.mbsync/:poseidonmailbox:mailinglists!intern_:local:mailinglists.intern imap(chrysn): Info: Disconnected: Logged out in=53 out=776 the file ~/.mbsync/:poseidonmailbox:mailinglists!intern_:local:mailinglists.intern is empty. in case it matters, the file system is btrfs mounted with rw,relatime,space_cache according to mtab (from a luks encrypted volume, but that should really not matter any more), on linux 3.14. what can i do to allow synchronization to continue? i'd be tempted to remove the ~/.mbsync/...intern file, but i'm not sure where else state might linger this might conflict with. (after all, i do think that the program's behavior of not trying to be clever about an unsyncable state is good). worst case i can remove the whole folders locally and sync back everything from the server (it's just mailing lists folders that should already have been in sync), but i'd prefer to know a way out should this happen again in an important folder. best regards chrysn -- To use raw power is to make yourself infinitely vulnerable to greater powers. -- Bene Gesserit axiom
