After an interruption during a synchronization that seemed to freeze,
I tried again to syncrhonize and received the following message:

Selecting slave mbox...
Loading master...
Loading slave...

master: 6543 messages, 0 recent

Synchronizing...

after which the synchronization seems to freeze. I'm using isync 1.1.1
on my client and dovecot in the server, and the relevant parts of the
config are
Expunge Both
Create Both
MaildirStore emlocal
Path ~/Maildir/
MapInbox Inbox
ImapStore em
Host ...
User ...
Pass ...
CertificateFile /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt
MapInbox Inbox
Channel emPriority
Master :em:
Slave :emlocal:
Pattern Inbox mbox Sent Spam
I'll appreciate any advice on how to recover.
