The QA programmer will work collaboratively with development teams to design
and implement tests that ensure NCBI systems are reliable and accurate. He
or she will be responsible for testing the NCBI infrastructure, individual
applications, and software components. The software tester will also be
responsible for gathering test requirements and preparing test reports. Simple
programming tasks related to QA may also be assigned. A person in this role
should have a background in software development. Prior experience with
software quality assurance is a plus.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, a scientific discipline, or
engineering.
Skills/experience
Required
Academic or professional experience with two or more of the following
computer languages: C, C++, C#, Visual Basic, Perl, Ruby, C, Java, SQL, Unix
shell scripting
Highly desirable
2+ years of professional experience in a software QA or development
Experience testing, building, or deploying web-based systems
Understanding of biology or bioinformatics
Experience using test automation software
Desirable
Experience with testing strategies such as unit, integration, regression,
and system testing
SQL Server, Sybase, or other relational databases
