*DESCRIPTION:*

The State of Wisconsin, as represented by the Department of Administration,
Division of Enterprise Technology, District Attorney Information Technology
Program (DA IT) is soliciting for an individual to serve as a Systems
Architect/Software Engineer 3 to design, modify, develop and implement
reporting applications for district attorney offices throughout Wisconsin.
This includes the reengineering and redesign of the reporting functionality
in PROTECT, a proprietary mission-critical case management system used in
District Attorney offices throughout Wisconsin. The person in this position
will architect reporting solutions to improve the ability for district
attorney offices to extract information and statistics from their case
management system. As such, they need to understand the on-going business
requirements of the DA users. The person in this position must also
architect an application solution that will meet end user business needs and
leverage technology that can be supported and maintained by existing DA IT
technical staff.
--The individual in this position will be expected to work closely with the
business analysts to understand customer needs in order to make
recommendations and suggestions to improve the reporting capabilities of
PROTECT. PROTECT is currently a VB6.0 application with a SQL Server 2005
database. The DA IT developers are currently in the process of migrating the
core system to VB.NET <http://vb.net/>. Current reporting capabilities
leverage Crystal Reports v. XI. The architect selected for the reporting
re-design may introduce/recommend other reporting solutions as long as it is
compatible with the existing platform. The proposed reporting solution must
account for both a distributed and centralized environment. In addition to
designing and proposing the new reporting solution, candidates in this
position will also be responsible for the programming and implementation of
the identified solution as well as transferring the knowledge of the
solution to the permanent DA IT development team.
--The DA IT program is responsible for providing IT services to 71 district
attorney offices throughout the state. The end user environment is a mix of
Windows 2000 and XP on workstations and a mix of servers with Windows Server
2000 or 2003. Some central servers are running Windows Server 2008.
--In-depth knowledge of VB, .NET, MS SQL Server, Crystal Reports and/or
other reporting solutions is required. Candidates selected for interviews
will be required to discuss IT projects for which they have performed
similar work. Preference will be given to local (Wisconsin-based)
candidates.
--Final candidates for this position will be required to complete a criminal
background check.
