JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION: SQL Developer REPORTS TO: Software Development Supervisor, Software Development Manager, Sr. Software Development Manager POSITION PURPOSE Lead development design and implementation of SQL for a project to streamline and simplify the tool which is used to manage day-to-day operations of Magic Online, improving overall efficiency while minimizing public facing errors. This position will also serve as the team's database and SQL expert, in a small team of senior developers creating robust, usable, high-quality software solutions to manage and support the popular high-transaction Magic Online game system and community. KEY RELATIONSHIPS Other software developers, Software Architect, Software Development Management, QA, Project Managers Supervises: None, but depending on skills may also serve as lead for part of development team. JOB DUTIES Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities: . Team expert on SQL and Microsoft SQL 2008 . Fine tune schema for new database . Implement database and stored procedures . Primarily working with SQL, but also expected to understand and contribute to C# calling procedures. . Expected to learn and understand the problem area, and the architecture of the new tool. . Provide reasonable and accurate estimates of time and materials required to complete vision and scope goals as directed. . Effectively interact and participate on small team of senior developers and architects, contributing to design discussions, code and architectural reviews, and troubleshooting development and production problems across multiple components, environments, and platforms. . Perform literate programming, using adequate commenting and documentation tools and in alignment with software development team best practices . Adopt industry standard and team-specific coding practices, and follows internal SDLC procedures . Work under general supervision . Diagnose and proactively propose solutions for software issues across the system, and in particular within regularly encountered components. . As appropriate, mentor and guide other team members, to improve in quality and effectiveness . Embrace Test Driven Development, including design and implementation of unit tests Secondary Functions: As assigned Financial Management None QUALIFICATIONS . 3 years working with Microsoft SQL Server 2008 . 3 years working with T-SQL . 2-4 years with recent C# development experience (.NET Framework 3.5 or later). WCF experience a plus . object-oriented design experience a plus. . Significant, demonstrable experience writing performant SQL - Significant, demonstrable experience with general DB design, tuning and optimization - Experience with database transactions, rollbacks and retries - Experience debugging and troubleshooting SQL related issues on a live system - Experience calling stored procedures from C# - Experience working with industry standard IDEs - Experience working with industry standard source control systems - Experience working with industry standard defect tracking systems - Commitment to industry standard code practices and literate programming style - SSRS and/or SSIS experience nice to have Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: .
