I would like to point out that I only want to add an empty (and unsigned) signature field to the document that I'm creating with iText. I have no need for iText to be able to handle the act of signing a signature field, as that would indeed require knowledge of all the different signature plugins.
For my purpose the actual signing of the document is performed by Approval.
I would be very happy if anyone who understand PDF could help me by pointing out some of the additional things that is required for this simple support of signature fields.
