I had problems merging several pdf's with your tool. The final merge file would scramble text on srolling. I sent you examples and asked for some help in analyzing the iText resultant pdf. I unfortunately did not receive any help nor did your group seem interested in a problem not yet encountered by other members.
I have since resolved the issue with use of a different tool. It was a legitimate problem and one that I believe could have easily been resolved given your expertise.
Here's what we did:
With the help of a PDF font utility, we were able to view information about the fonts contained in our PDF documents. Viewed separately, the 40 PDF files we were merging had the same fonts embedded in each file: Arial, Arial-Bold, Arial-Italic, Arial+2, etc.
When these files were merged, the resultant PDF had those same fonts embedded over and over again - with the same name but different Object ID. However, when we created the 40 source PDFs using Adobe Distiller printer driver instead of Crystal Report's PDF generator, we noticed that the font names had a prefix added, like "A2BC5-Arial". I presume Distiller does this in order to make the embedded font names unique in the event the document ever gets merged.
When we merged these PDFs together, the text corruption I described earlier did not happen... no matter what merge tool we used.
We found a PDF merge tool that added this same sort of prefix to embedded font names during the merge process, even though there was no prefix in the source PDFs.
That has solved our problem.
Best of luck.
