I'm planning my server, which is going to start out on a old Beige G3/266
running OS X Server Jaguar and Web Objects 5.1, Itext, PosgreSQL and
Apache. One of my customers will get utilize iText for PDF creation from
a java app that fetches data from the Database I made them.

Now, I have found cheap Zip CPU upgrades and wonder whether I should get
a 350 or 400 mhz G4 or a 450 G3 ZIF replacement CPU, in order to make it
just a little faster until I can afford an Xserve :)

I suppose DB access and WO doesn't really need a G4, but whatabout iText?
Can it make use of altivec and if so, do I have to code for it
specifically or will it just use the extra power when available?

I'm also open to suggestions for a fast drive, either on the internal
SCSI bus or on the ATA. As this is a 66 mhz bus internally, I suppose
this will limit the usefulness of very fast discs and CPUs, but a little
more bang couldn't hurt, or what do you think?
I guess I'd put at least a 80 GB in there, so I can fit many customers.
But realistically I'm not expecting to fit in more than 10-25 different
sites before I need to upgrade. But how do I calculate such things as
expected performance per site and amount of visitors?

This box will run faceless with just an adaptor in the video connector.
Anyone have done that for any length of time?
