Now you know why Sun doesn't allow java to be used in a nuclear facility...
I've heard about erratic problems and not only about iText. The solutions
were:

- Use another computer. Another computer with exactly the same configuration
didn't have the problem.

- Reinstall the JVM.

- Use another JVM version.

- Replace your computer RAM. One of the RAMs was damaged but it was only
apparent in java, probably because java is so memory hungry and used all
that was available.

- Recompile iText with your JVM version. Try with and without debug
information.
