No, all the fonts in a TTC are registered (what's the problem?).
There is no problem, in fact for general usage i'd thing it is the smartest aproach.
For our needs it would be useful if I could allow users to give their own names to fonts inside the configuration files, but they may well live without that luxury.

OTF are also registered.
