To answer #1: You may be running into one of the limits of iText. It won't build appearances for buttons of any kind out of the box. This has several effects:
1) You can't flatten a button, checkbox, or radio button. 2) You need to set the "needsAppearances" flag when writing out the PDF so Acrobat will know to build new appearances for the form fields. If you're using the same test file over and over again, you may have inadvertently saved the file from Acrobat... which may have built an appearance. Following uses of that file will see the existing appearance, which may or may not reflect the value of that field. The good news is that with a check box, you have a %50 chance of being correct! :\ (Unless Paulo and Bruno have integrated the code changes I submitted... nudge nudge) --Mark Storer Senior Software Engineer Cardiff Software #include <disclaimer> typedef std::disclaimer<Cardiff> DisCard; -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Rakesh Patel Sent: Wednesday, May 03, 2006 7:11 AM To: iText Subject: [iText-questions] iText and AcroForms Hi all, trying to put it all the pieces together and generate pdfs in my web app but have run into some issues: 1. Inserting text into the pdf works but setting the checkboxes doesn't. I found a forum entry saying to set the checkbox to "1". Here's what I'm doing: form.setField("Frau", "1"); // Frau is a checkbox any ideas? 2. Instead of creating a FileOutputStream to hold the merged pdf can i just use a ByteArrayOutputStream? 3. I would like to reference the AcroForm pdf in a generic way and not hard-code its location on the file system. What are my options? Shall i put the pdf on the web site and load it using a url? Can i place it in the classes directory and have it automatically picked up from there? Thanks Rakesh ------------------------------------------------------- Using Tomcat but need to do more?
