The
SilentPrintServlet uses _javascript_ to print the PDF, but the PDF is still
displayed using the acrobat reader browser plugin.
Is there anyway to
prevent this, so that is a real hidden print, and the browser displays no PDF
but another
HTML
page?

no, iText is a library to produce, parse and manipulate PDF documents.

depending on your OS, this might work:
% lpr thedocument.pdf
but you need to be more specific about your environment.
