I just solved the problem this morning in this way:
Before:
BaseFont ocr =
BaseFont.createFont("C:\\usr\\max\\Java\\netBeans\\OCR\\font\\OCRAEXT.TTF",
BaseFont.IDENTITY_H, BaseFont.EMBEDDED);
After:
FontFactory.register("C:\\usr\\max\\Java\\netBeans\\OCR\\font\\OCRAEXT.TTF")
;
Font ocrFont = FontFactory.getFont("ocraextended");
BaseFont ocr = ocrFont.getBaseFont();
