In your case, you had attached a large file and you talked about the 'attach file concept' to do something that isn't possible. This is actually good advice, but maybe it would be even easier to work with 'Optional Content Groups'. The small image would then be added to one group; the larger image to another group. Clicking the image toggles the layers.
