Thanks The Document Management team over the last couple of years has begun migrating to the PDF standard for long term document retention. Earlier this year PDF/A was approved by most governmental agencies and standards bodies as the standard for long-term document retention. PDF/A, a subset of the PDF 1.4 specification, was approved as an ISO standard (ISO 19005-1) in September 2005. For more information on PDF/A see http://www.digitalpreservation.gov/formats/fdd/fdd000125.shtml or the attached document. << File: PDF_A - The Basics.pdf >> Long term document retention is becoming a reality for this company with many corporate records now being generated by PCs and application systems and stored in the corporate Document Management System with retention periods of 20 to 75 years. Next year (2007) the corporate Document Management System software (WorkFACILITY+ and ObjectMANAGER) will be upgraded to support PDF/A compliance. This means that documents generated by WorkFACILITY+ as native PDF will be PDF/A compliant and non-PDF documents that require PDF rendering will be converted "on the fly" by WorkFACILITY+ and ObjectMANAGER to a PDF/A compliant format. Besides the core DMS software we are providing two other standard PDF generation tools: * JES2FTP - a mainframe resident package that converts mainframe print streams to PDF format. * SCAN2PDF - a client side tool that takes images from a document scanner and generates PDF/A compliant documents. At this time we are interested understanding where and what PDF generation software is being used, either installed on PCs or incorporated into application systems. If you are responsible for an environment that incorporates PDF generation technology would you provide: * The name of the PDF generation product in use * The version of the product * The vendor of the product * Type of product - standalone or PDF toolkit * Any plans for upgrading or discontinuing the product I'd like to have all responses by EOB Friday 10/20/2006.
