I found that out in the meantime. Thank you, anyway.
Furthermore I found out that there was the older version itext-1.4.2.jar in
the lib directory as well and Java took this JAR instead of iText.jar of
version 1.4.7x. Now it works well.
Thanks a lot ...and quick races between campus. ;-)
