The differences between PDF and RTF have three causes:
1.) Bugs. As in this case, the cause is a bug in how the RTF handles a certain
case (that I overlooked somewhere in development).
2.) Oversights. PDF generation is under active development, whereas the RTF
part gets worked on when I have nothing else to do.
3.) Format differences. The PDF and RTF formats are quite different at the
lowest level. While PDF acts as a very precise page description format, RTF
can be understood as markup that only gets rendered when viewed. This basic
difference means that some things are just not possible in RTF.

The fact of the matter is that I haven't worked in a job where iText (and
especially the RTF part) is used, for close to three years. This means that I
have no personal need to work on it and so the main impetus are people with
either bugs or additional requirements. I try to fix bugs quickly, but iText
just isn't very high on my list of priorities and so very little happens from
my side. The end result is that the RTF part will continue to lag, until I
either find a job where I can work on the RTF generation or somebody else
steps in.

Greetings,
Mark
