The HeaderFooter class has not been documented in the past 3 years.
It's not mentioned in the free online tutorial; it's not mentioned
in the book. There's a reason for that: using class HeaderFooter is
very disappointing for people who need what you descibed above.

If you want the formatting like you want it, adapting HeaderFooter
is certainly not the way to go. You should use page events as described
in the free tutorial and the book.

I admit that the presence of the HeaderFooter class is confusing,
but it's there because for backward compatibility. Reading the
documentation (the book or http://itextdocs.lowagie.com/tutorial)
before starting to work with iText is not a waste of time. You'll
save a lot of time on the long run!
