Can someone explain the difference here and > maybe suggest a way around this? I think what you are seeing here is a result of the slight difference in the way PDF and RTF work. The PDF cells probably expand in order to contain the images, whereas this doesn't work with the RTF, as iText doesn't do the rendering and so can't check if the images will fit at all.
I'll try to get your test-case working, but I'm swamped with work, so no
guarantees.
