Barcodes in forms are XFA specific.
They weren't supported in AcroForms.
As you know, there is some support for XFA in iText;
but you shouldn't expect miracles.

PdfTk is an old version of iText compiled with GCJ.
This was done by a third party. There's no business
relationship between that third party and the iText
company.

Are you flattening the form?
If you are, all XFA is removed and all the specific
XFA barcode stuff is probably lost.

When I need to fill in a barcode, I usually use an
AcroForm button as a placeholder and I replace that
button with a barcode generated using iText.

I fear you'll have to look for another solution.
