I use iText for a lot of stuff, but not this (as you can tell).
I ended-up with jai and the open-source (now it's old, unfortunately) version
of jpedal to do the work. It works pretty well. There are a few PDFs that I
still have trouble with, but haven't gotten around to figuring out what makes
them different and then how to fix it.

Hi, so iText is not the way to do it.
I tried to extract an Image of the PDF (which I am actually interested in)
but that didn't work on all PDF documents I got as input file.
Is there an open Source way to do it?
