Hi,
This is a excerpt from a fax log regarding the files that cannot be read:
Nov 14 10:08:42.17: [14988]: REMOTE wants 9600 bit/s
Nov 14 10:08:42.17: [14988]: REMOTE wants A4 page width (215 mm)
Nov 14 10:08:42.17: [14988]: REMOTE wants unlimited page length
Nov 14 10:08:42.17: [14988]: REMOTE wants 3.85 line/mm
Nov 14 10:08:42.17: [14988]: REMOTE wants 1-D MH
Nov 14 10:08:42.17: [14988]: REMOTE wants T.30 Annex A, 256-byte ECM
And the Stacktrace I get again:
java.lang.RuntimeException: Scanline must begin with EOL code word.
at com.lowagie.text.pdf.codec.TIFFFaxDecoder.readEOL(Unknown
Source)
at com.lowagie.text.pdf.codec.TIFFFaxDecoder.decode2D(Unknown
Source)
It looks to me that the fax is encoded in 1D, but iText tries to decode it with
the 2D algorithm, which probably causes the problem.
Is there a way for me to prevent it from happening or to fix it?
Thanks,
Stefan

I noticed that all tiff files that cannot be read are encoded in CCITT 4 with
Macintosh Byteorder. Could that have something to do with the problem?
Thanks,
Stefan

I’ve tested it with 2.1.4 and got no improvements. I guess the files are
broken, but that doesn’t explain why all files coming from a specific sender
are. Any clues?
Thanks,
Stefan

Make sure you are using the latest iText version, it has some fixes for broken
files. The files can be corrupt (and most probably are) but as iText is not a
fax viewer we don't go to extremes that they go to recover broken files.

Subject: [iText-questions] "Scanline must begin with EOL code word" when
reading certain Fax files
Hi,
I’m developing a software that reads tiff files from a fax server and converts
them to pdf. Recently I’m experiencing RuntimeExceptions when trying to load
faxes from certain senders. This is what they look like:
java.lang.RuntimeException: Scanline must begin with EOL code word.
at com.lowagie.text.pdf.codec.TIFFFaxDecoder.readEOL(Unknown
Source)
at com.lowagie.text.pdf.codec.TIFFFaxDecoder.decode2D(Unknown
Source)
at com.lowagie.text.pdf.codec.TiffImage.getTiffImage(Unknown
Source)
at com.lowagie.text.pdf.codec.TiffImage.getTiffImage(Unknown
Source)
I can open the files in any image viewer so I don’t think that the files are
corrupt.
Does somebody know what causes that problem and how I can read the files
without getting it?
Thanks,
Stefan
