What do you mean by that? Should I create a PDF by hand using that
font? I haven't tried that. The other glyphs are printed correctly and
seem to be of the right font. Only the umlauts are not being handled.
I even looked at the font definition stream in the generated PDF and
as far as I understand it the widths are correctly calculated and
inserted and the used characters are valid. The attached document
shows the phenomenon.

Printing with the same font definition to a real Graphics2D object
prints out everything correctly.
I am really out of ideas how to address this on my side.
