PDF/A does NOT allow encryption - since the chances that the person who knows the password is probably going to be dead when the file is accessed. Remember, PDF/A is about LONG TERM archiving...
PDF/A also makes it quite clear that a conforming reader is NOT allowed to add annotations to the document. The document is considered "read only". Related to this, if you ARE going to use PDF/A, then you MUST use a PDF/A conforming reader (according to the standard), otherwise you are NOT guaranteed that the document will display correctly. At this time, only Adobe Reader 9, conforms to the standard. [1] thanks for your quick answer; OK - i didn't went to 'deep' into the specifications. Is it possible to set document security attributes without encryption? That was the whole point using that stuff - to be able to set this in a way we want. > >> 2 I was unable to create a PDF with IText that Acrobat Reader can use with >> its annotation Tools (marks, notes etc). > > Er... you want to create a Reader Enabled PDF using non-Adobe software? > That's not allowed is it? [2] Uhh - Thanks for the hint. From the Adobe Reader 9 page it was not that clear - but looked a bit that way. I looked into that before but found no definitive answer. Anyway - that was a nice to have Feature. I can get around this with non Adobe Readers. They can annotate IText created documents. The point was not in 'violating the law' - it was a (legal) annotation enabled PDF (better PDF/A) document. hb > > [1] AFAIK that's in violation with the PDF/A specification. > [2] AFAIK that's in violation with the law. > -- > This answer is provided by 1T3XT BVBA > http://www.1t3xt.com/ - http://www.1t3xt.info > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > Download Intel® Parallel Studio Eval > Try the new software tools for yourself.
