You don't even necessary need GIS information for that - you could use 
scripting, embedded Flash and something like the Google Maps API.  We have a 
demo of this somewhere...

Perhaps my question is a bit naïve as I am not positive I am asking a 
iText/32000 question or a TerraGo question so allow me to describe the problem 
I am solving in as short/generic way as possible:

I basically want to have a similar capabilities as google maps - a map on one 
page, a list of items in that geography on an index on the left like google 
would have for restaurants / hotels / etc.   Clicking either the map point or 
on the index would direct you to the page that contains the details for that 
item / (e.g. the restaurants web page).   The map is zoomable and affects the 
index contents.
