What I'd need, is not the code, but a PDF that allows me to reproduce the problem. I've tested with iText created PDFs and with PDFs created with Acrobat 9. Maybe there are PDFs with specific constructs that reproduce the error. It would help if you send us such a PDF. > I suspect that even if 5.0.5 were to somehow work, we'd be unable to use it, > as we make heavy use of JasperReports, which currently uses 2.x (or did last > time I checked). JasperReports is a customer of iText Software Corp. If they didn't switch to iText 5 yet, they may do so in the near future. > And please understand, I was NOT calling iText useless. Recently a company has won an award for a product that relies entirely on iText, but that company has never paid for their use of iText, nor does that company mention that they use iText (they act in a legal grayzone; they should at least distribute the iText source code to their customers, but they don't).
To avoid misunderstandings: this is not about your company. You were just on the mailing list at the wrong time. Companies like that are like parasites: by behaving the way they do, they force the developers of the technology they depend on to make a living doing boring jobs instead of writing code. They think the open source world is a candy shop where they can take everything for free. But open source developers aren't Oompa Loompa's; open source developers shouldn't be condemned to "work for free" aka "slavery". Open source developers need to pay bills too. Try working for free for a while: it's fun at first, because it gives you the feeling you're a good person. But experiences of ungratefulness can spoil that fun. Fortunately, as the business gets better and better, there are fewer and fewer moments of frustration ;-) And truth to be told: it's not really about the money, it's all about pride. It's high time iText wins an Award (even a symbolic one would be welcome). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Learn how Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) One Node allows customers to consolidate database storage, standardize their database environment, and, should the need arise, upgrade to a full multi-node Oracle RAC database without downtime or disruption http://p.sf.net/sfu/oracle-sfdevnl _______________________________________________ iText-questions mailing list [email protected] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/itext-questions Many questions posted to this list can (and will) be answered with a reference to the iText book: http://www.itextpdf.com/book/ Please check the keywords list before you ask for examples: http://itextpdf.com/themes/keywords.php
