iText gives developers the freedom to create custom annotations. For 
instance: if they need support for new annotations for which we don't 
have any iText classes yet. Originally, I thought this was the nature of 
your problem.

However, I took a first glance at the internal syntax of the file in a 
text viewer. Every PDF has "fingerprints" that are invisible to the 
untrained eye; based on these fingerprints I can see that another 
program has manipulated the PDF after it was created with iText. Maybe 
the links were added by that other, unknown program.

I have several meetings today, so I'll probably won't have the time to 
have a closer look at the PDF today, but knowing my curious nature I'll 
probably have a look at the problem this weekend.
