Please read http://www.slideshare.net/blowagie/pdf-digital-signatures
I quote from slide 18:
- A signature signs the complete document
- The concept of signing separate pages in a document ("to initial a
document") doesn't exist in PDF
- Legal issue: how to prove that a person who signed for approval has
read the complete document?
If you read those slides, you'll understand that all the bytes (from the
whole document; with the content of every page) are covered by the
digital signature. The fact that the visual representation of that
signature is visible on one page or not is irrelevant.
