In that case you need something like iText 2.1.7.
It's not supported (so if you run into a problem, you're on your own),
it may contain code of which the copyright isn't clear (so if you get an audit of some kind, you'll be in trouble),
and it's no longer hosted on the official web sites.

They still have copies. Don't download it from any other source, because we've had word that third parties were shipping jars that looked like iText but weren't... (One more reason why there's no support for the older versions: we aren't responsible for rogue software.)
