Can I please get some directions on the following, I'm working on a simple
proof of concept. The goal is to have links inside pdf that when clicked
trigger a function in the parent html. I've been looking but can't seem to
find a good example.

Could someone point me first how to add js in iText like javascript alert
when a link is clicked. Once that's working if I replace the alert with a
function, is it possible for that function to call the js function that I
wrote in the html?
