Thanks for the reply. Yes, i understand that there are differences and 
that the pdfcontentbyte/columntext offer more granular control :-)

But why would html, that does not contain any <br> or <p> tags and where 
the rendered result "should" fit inside the "box" (the field is almost as 
wide as the page/document itself) suddenly wrap by itself.

i can't find any references to a "no-wrap" attribute of some sort.

I assumed that by getting a list of elements (from the xmlworker process) 
and adding these elements on the page, no other side-effects would occur.
