No. Not in that way.
For instance, if an application has a very large 3D model or a very wide
2D plant, the glcanvasbox size is just the size available on the dialog.
You don't set the size of the control to match the size of your contents,
instead you leave the size to expand to the size of the dialog, then you
scale your model to zoom in and out accordingly.
