Thanks Scuri.
Having to rebuild IUP-Lua just to get a package for Lua didn't seem right.
Like having to buy a cow if you want a glass of milk.

IIRC luarocks failed because it didn't find the LUA header files, rather
than the libraries.

Is there a way of getting those headers other than downloading the full
source?
