I've noticed in some other contexts that there will be 4 "password:"
prompts but the first two appear to be a double prompt leading you to enter
the password only three times. Then it looks like it hangs.  If you enter
the password a fourth time it (echos and) continues on as it should.

This may or may not be what you're seeing!
