i get a similar thing with the onboard video for my
via epia m10k

The problem was solved for me by running a separate
X instance, not just a second head.

If you need xinerama, then it may not work
currently, but if you just need 2 screens, you can run
X twice.

set up a serverlayout for each, then run something
like this:

/usr/X11R6/bin/X -audit 0 -layout "DVD Layout" :1
