I already had that downloaded and extracted -- just needed to add the line
to the mkinitrd-ivtv script.
Ran the script, rebooted, and as you surmised, 99.9% of the warnings/errors
in dmesg disappeared. The sole remaining lines, issued during the
initialization of each half of the PVR-500MCE are:

ivtv2 warning: i2c client addr: 0x1b not found for command 0x4004760f!

^-- this is 'ivtv1' for the first half (obviously), but otherwise the

you'll need to follow the instructions here:
http://ivtvdriver.org/index.php/Firmware to get that as it won't have
been installed by the ATrpms firmware package.
